A place where faith and creativity meet
Lumen House is both a real place and a deep metaphor!
It is a longtime dream of mine come true – a little retreat house in my rural backyard.
It is a place for study, prayer and creativity – a place of solitude and meeting.
It is a place of sunshine and moonlight and it welcomes the shadows.
It is a place where faith is explored and creativity is encouraged.
It has become a space in which inner light is encouraged to illumine
hearts and souls and minds.
A place of spark and flame.
This website is an extension of my backyard idyll which changes with the seasons.
The Rev. Canon Jannel Glennie lives in Michigan with her husband on a few acres in the middle of farm country.
She was ordained an Episcopal priest in 1989. The Rev. Glennie has served in several churches and most recently, as rector of St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church in Williamston, Michigan for 13 years. She was seated as an Honorary Canon in the Diocese of Michigan in November of 2014.
Upon retirement from parish ministry, Jannel built her little office/prayer space behind her home where she now offers spiritual direction, small group facilitation, and a healing presence. Rev. Glennie also leads a variety of retreats and teaches classes in spirituality and the mystic way. (Go to her Events page to see what she is offering or sponsoring.) Jannel is a member of Spiritual Directors International.
In 2000, Jannel published her first book, Confessions of an Ordinary Mystic. This book is a collection of experiences that arose in the silence of prayer and often were manifest in images as well as words. Her brother, Don Thomas, illustrated the experiences with beautiful watercolors. The book also includes a user friendly description of nine spiritual disciplines that encourage one to deepen their own relationship with the Holy. There are also study questions and guides for creative responses to the experiences. Though this book is out of print, you can purchase a copy directly from Jannel !
Writing poetry has come most recently as a spiritual and creative outlet. Jannel published a collection of original poems, Translations: the Dance of Word and Image, that also may be purchased from Jannel.
